Good news for the Voltes V fans in the Land of the Rising Sun because the Philippines’ live-action movie version of the Japanese anime is coming to Japan.

The Voltes V: Legacy: The Cinematic Experience, shown in Philippine cinemas last April 2023, will have its theatrical release in Japan this coming October.

TOEI Company made the official announcement on June 4, 2024, the anime series’ 47th anniversary since its first airing in 1977.

Based on its newly launched website, a “Super Electromagnetic Edition” of the Filipino-produced film will hit the Japanese theaters on October 18.

“The TV anime ‘Super Electromagnetic Machine [Voltes V]’ has been live-action in the Philippines, where it has received enthusiastic support, after about half a century. It was decided that the work will finally return to its native Japan in triumph and be released theatrically on October 18,” the animation company said, as translated into English.

Moreover, TOEI shared that “the film was re-edited to include additional scenes not included in the Philippine version of the film. In addition, the quality of the original CG scene was also impeccable, and the entire remaster work is done to greatly increase, and the power of the video has increased ‘super electromagnetic editing version’!!”

The company plans to release a Japanese dubbed version aside from the subtitled version with the original Filipino audio.

“In addition to the subtitle version, we have also decided to publish it in the dubbed version. Don’t miss the movie, which will be the first to be released worldwide!” TOEI added.

In response, Voltes V: Legacy director Mark Reyes greeted the Japanese fans and congratulated them on this exciting development.

“Hello, Japan fans! I’m film director Mark Reyes. Congratulations on the launching announcement of Voltes V Legacy. We hope that you will enjoy and feel our love and passion for Voltes V. Let’s volt in!” the Filipino filmmaker said in his short video on Instagram.

It could be recalled that in 2021, the live-action teaser of Voltes V: Legacy received approving nods from Japanese viewers. Thanks to the Filipino graphic artists from Riot, Inc. and the GMA Post Production department for the stunning visual effects.

After the release of its cinematic version, the GMA Entertainment Group, Telesuccess Productions, and the TOEI Company collaboration project received favorable reviews from moviegoers. It even made it to The World Information Tracking’s (TheWit) top 10 list of the most-followed new shows on Instagram.

The Voltes V: Legacy starting Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Radson Flores, Matt Lozano, and Raphael Landicho first aired on GMA Prime in May 2023. It is currently having a re-run on GMA Afternoon Prime.
