“Pinoy Aquaman” Ingemar Macarine has set a new record while promoting clean seas and beaches as he swam from Olotayan Island to Roxas City in Capiz province – the first time such an open water swim was successfully attempted in the area.
The long-distance swimmer who earned the moniker after setting swim records for various advocacies in the Philippines and around the world swam nonstop and unassisted for 3 hours and 15 minutes over a distance of 10.8 kilometers on March 17, 2024, his fastest marathon swim to date.
Ingemar Macarine’s swim to People’s Park in Barangay Baybay advocates clean seas and beaches, Roxas City tourism, and a healthy lifestyle.
The Bohol Department of Justice prosecutor said that “the current, tides, and wind were all in perfect condition”, providing the ideal condition for him to swim faster.
In contrast, his Masbate swim last year was far from ideal. “During the Masbate swim, I was caught by a strong current 2km from the shoreline. I had to battle it out just to reach the shore,” recalls Macarine.
The lawyer-athlete shared that his preparation for the Capiz swim was challenging considering his full-time work. He had months of training, 30-minute runs, floor exercises in the morning, and 2-hour swims in the evening.
Macarine announced his next 10km swim is from Canada to the US this July.
