The Alumni Slo-Pitch Softball League (ASSL) is celebrating its 20th season, featuring fierce competitions among the Philippines’ top universities on November 10, 17, and 24 at the Manila Polo Club. Led by three-time defending champion UP Los Baños, the tournament brings together alumni teams from prestigious schools with rich histories in baseball and softball, including UST, Ateneo, and Adamson.
On Day 1, the UST Growling Tigers and UP Los Baños Fighting Maroons surged ahead with two wins each. UP Los Baños triumphed over UP Diliman 19-5 and later clinched a tight 11-8 victory against La Salle. Meanwhile, UST rallied against UP Diliman and Ateneo, securing thrilling comebacks to win 20-17 and 8-5, respectively.

Ateneo’s Blue Eagles, powered by a strong pitching lineup of ASSL Commissioner Johnny Perlas, Coach Randy Dizer, and Jun Muyco, scored an impressive 5-4 victory against Adamson. Game MVP Dane Zamudio executed a spectacular defensive play, catching a powerful one-bounce throw from national pitcher Paulo Macasaet at home. Adamson later dominated La Salle in a high-scoring 15-8 match led by veterans Kiko Francisco and Lando Binarao, with Team Captain Alvin Bernardino contributing two doubles.
Among the tournament’s highlights, Adamson’s Soaring Falcons—renowned for the longest consecutive championship streak in UAAP history—bring formidable talents such as Coach Jayson Santos and national player Jenette Rustia to the field. Ateneo also features seasoned players, including former Blu Girls Cheska Altomonte and Krissy Drillon, while La Salle and UP Diliman enter the tournament with experienced lineups and new coed recruits.
Notably, UST’s team, led by national players Jonjon Robles, Lilet Arago, and Esme Tayag, aims to leverage its seasoned roster to contend fiercely in this year’s games. UP Los Baños, seeking a fourth consecutive championship, will rely on standout players like Marlon Caspillo, Pau de Chavez, and heavy hitters Baron Alqueza and Jojo Ignacio.
PSC Commissioner Fritz Gaston led the Opening Ceremony. The league’s partners include Cebuana Lhuillier, Bahay Turo, and ASAPHIL. Fans can catch live updates on the ASSL Facebook page and Game Changer app, with live streaming available for selected games.
