Filipina athletes Meggie Ochoa and Kimberly Anne Custodio have been declared Jiu-Jitsu World Champions at the 2022 Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The Philippines’ female martial artists ruled the women’s adult -48kg and -45kg categories to win first place and gold medals in their respective final events at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena.
Two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Ochoa added to the country’s medal haul after besting Vicky Hoang Ni Ni of Canada in the finals, 2-0, making the Filipina athlete a world champion once again after winning the historic first gold for the Philippines and Asia in the 2018 Jiu-Jitsu World Championships.
2019 World Championships bronze medalist Custodio won her gold medal in the competition after defeating Thailand’s Kacie Pechrada Tan in the final round, 6-4.
The Filipina athletes brought home two gold medals after competing against top jiu-jitsu players from around the world in the championship held from October 29 to November 8.
