Filipina nurse Ediscyll Lorusso of St. George’s University Hospital has been named a finalist for the Our Health Heroes’ National Lifetime Achievement Award in the United Kingdom.

Lorusso is among the three final nominees for this year’s national healthcare awards which honor inspirational individuals and teams from across the UK’s health and social care sector.

Originally from the Philippines, Lorusso was lauded for being “a true ambassador for nursing and an exceptional role model” as well as her dedication and work with raising awareness for thrombosis prevention.

The 44-year-old Lorusso has been working in the NHS for 21 years and is a Senior Thrombosis Clinical Nurse Specialist at St. George’s University Hospital.

“As an overseas nurse at the age of 44, to be in the running for the national lifetime achievement award for the Our Health Heroes award is such a huge honour. I would like to extend my indebtedness appreciation to my past and present colleagues who took the time to make this nomination,” Ediscyll Lorusso said in a statement on January 17, 2022.

“I am deeply humbled to represent all the extraordinary, hardworking and selfless nurses all over the world who work intensely every day and especially during the pandemic. This is a collective success for all of us,” Lorusso added.

Aside from being a full-time nurse and a mother to two young children, Lorusso also volunteers for various Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) networks related to healthcare, including Freedom To Speak Up and the Philippine Nurses Association-UK.

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the Our Health Heroes Awards celebrate the extraordinary people who are at the heart of the NHS and social care services in the United Kingdom.

Votes can be cast for Ediscyll Lorusso on the Skills for Health website until February 4, 2022, through this link.

Winners will be announced at a hybrid awards ceremony at the London Science Museum on March 24.

More Filipino healthcare professionals in the UK have been receiving honors including Dennis Singson and Marc Rodriguera who were recently named the recipients of the first-ever International Community Nurse award from The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) in the United Kingdom.

The Filipino Nurses Association in the United Kingdom (FNA-UK) earlier won the Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Community Initiative of the Year award for its outstanding work during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
