The Philippine women’s national football team, known as the Malditas, got off to a rousing start in the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers with a comeback win over Nepal at the JAR Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The national women’s football team scored late goals courtesy of Filipina booters Tahnai Annis and Camille Wilson in the last minutes of the game to pull off an upset against Nepal, 2-1, on September 18.
“The new players played well and initiated the first goal,” said Malditas Head coach Marlon Maro. “Our adjustments in the second half resulted in us scoring in the last five minutes.”
The Malditas of the Philippines, managed by Jefferson Cheng and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and MVP Sports Foundation, will face off against Hong Kong on Friday, September 24 for a chance to qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022.
The world no. 68 Malditas scored their historic first-ever appearance in the Final 4 of the 2019 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship.
