Filipino plant-based brand Sekaya gives over 5k tree seedlings for Cordillera reforestation

Benguet Pine will be planted in Talinguroy, Longlong in La Trinidad in July as part of Sekaya’s partnership with the Cordillera Conservation Trust.

Filipino plant-based brand Sekaya is donating 5,190 Philippine endemic tree seedlings to support the reforestation efforts of the Cordillera Conservation Trust.

The environmental project is a major part of the brand’s nature conservation advocacy given the natural ingredients it sources and its emphasis on sustainability in the way that it develops products.

Sekaya earlier committed to matching the number of gift packs sold in its 2020 holiday sale of limited-edition Prescribing Nature Gift Packs to benefit the Cordillera reforestation.

Each gift pack contained a curated selection of the brand’s natural, science-backed products aligned with the brand’s Prescribing Nature campaign that supports one’s health goals and daily wellness.

The gift boxes featured the Philippine endemic trees to be planted, as illustrated by botanical artist and conservation advocate Cynthia Bauzon-Arre.

Because of the overwhelming number of tree seedlings, Sekaya was able to secure, the Cordillera Conservation Trust will be able to plant Benguet Pine, Dipterocarp, and Mangrove in Talinguroy, Longlong in La Trinidad targeted in July, and in Uhaj, a small rice-farming village in Ifugao, scheduled in August.

Due to the overwhelming amount of seedlings secured, the Cordillera Conservation Trust will be able to plant seedlings in Uhaj, a small rice-farming village in Ifugao.

The seedlings will contribute to the Cordillera Conservation Trust’s mission of preserving and protecting the mountain region and its unique ecological and cultural characteristics.

As one of North Luzon’s major watersheds, the Cordillera hosts nine major rivers that provide water for irrigation and energy for the entire area and beyond.

“The Cordillera Conservation Trust is happy to partner with Sekaya for this partnership because we believe it is important to connect consumers not just to natural products but with nature itself,” says founder JP Alipio. “Through this program they are co-stakeholders in the forests that we plant and build. They are active participants in the enhancement and protection of nature through their purchase of Sekaya’s natural products. Helping to heal ourselves and our earth home, together.”

Sekaya is a Filipino plant-based brand that provides natural, science-backed products to support your health goals and daily wellness. Sekaya is under Synnovate Pharma Corporation, the natural products company of UNILAB.

More reforestation efforts in the Philippines include that of Filipino celebrity Donnalyn Bartolome who raised over PHP1M fund for reforestation and the Ipo Watershed in Bulacan reforested by the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines together with GCash.
