The Philippine digital economy is primed for growth, driven by innovative Gen Z contributions and the expanding business-to-business (B2B) sector. Globe Telecom, a leader in the telecom industry, calls for stronger collaboration between public and private sectors to realize the nation’s digital aspirations.
At the GSMA Digital Nation Summit Manila, Darius Delgado, Globe’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the need for shared investments, regulatory support, and coordinated efforts to accelerate infrastructure development, promote digital literacy, and foster inclusive economic growth.
“No single telco can handle the challenges or opportunities alone,” said Delgado. “By working together, we can ensure technology drives the inclusive progress we all aim for.”

Strengthening Digital Foundations
Globe’s connectivity efforts have linked over 6 million postpaid broadband users and 120 million wireless network subscribers. This robust infrastructure supports 87 million online users and has facilitated the rise of platforms like GCash, which empowers over 90 million Filipinos, including 6 million entrepreneurs and job seekers.
The digital economy contributed PHP2.08 trillion to the national GDP in 2022, underscoring its potential as a driver of growth.
Gen Z and B2B: Key to the Future
With 42 million Gen Z individuals and a median national age of 24.8 years, the Philippines stands at a unique advantage. “In the next five years, we estimate around 11 million new customers joining the mobile base,” Delgado stated. “This presents a huge opportunity in the consumer sector.”
On the B2B side, Delgado sees untapped potential among enterprises slow to adopt digital solutions. He said, “There’s a lot of awareness and education needed to show how ICT and business solutions can make operations more effective, efficient, and customer-focused.”
Embracing AI and Strengthening Cybersecurity
Delgado stressed the importance of adopting artificial intelligence (AI) for digital progress. “You have to leverage the AI curve, otherwise, you’ll get left behind. People skilled in Gen AI will replace those who don’t use it,” he said.
Globe is preparing for an AI-driven future by investing in data centers and upskilling its workforce. On cybersecurity, Delgado emphasized, “The most important currency today is trust. No matter what you offer to the customer, everything goes away if you are not a trusted brand.”
To combat digital threats, Globe collaborates with GSMA to strengthen standards and advocate stricter regulations against scams.
A Commitment to Progress
“We are at the cusp of digital transformation moving forward,” Delgado shared. “That means we have a bigger responsibility as telcos to ensure the bright future every Filipino aspires for becomes a reality.”
Through collaboration, innovation, and investment, Globe is paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive digital future for the Philippines.
