Philippine Universities Make a Mark: 16 Institutions Ranked in QS Asia University Rankings

The 2024 Quacquarelli Symonds Asia University Rankings (QS AUR) have again recognized the Philippines’ educational excellence, listing 16 universities, including four new entries. The University of the Philippines (UP) leads this group, maintaining its position as the country’s top university. In the latest rankings, UP climbed nine spots to 78th in Asia from its previous 87th position, marking its presence in the top 10% of 856 Asian universities and 18th out of 148 in Southeast Asia.

Joining UP in leading the Philippines are the other universities listed in the 2024 QS World University Rankings: Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), and the University of Santo Tomas (UST). The four new entrants are the University of San Carlos (USC), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Far Eastern University (FEU), and Mindanao State University (MSU).

Here’s how these universities stand in the 2024 QS AUR compared to the 2023 edition:

  • UP: Now 78th in Asia, improving from 87th (QS WUR #404)
  • ADMU: Ranked 137th, down from 134th (QS WUR #563)
  • DLSU: Climbed to 154th from 171st (QS WUR 681-690)
  • UST: Positioned at 179th, down from 175th (QS WUR 801-850)

Joining the leaders are 12 Philippine universities ranked in the 2024 QS AUR:

The 16 local HEIs are among the 856 Asian universities appearing on the ranking created with criteria similar to that used for the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) but with additional indicators and adapted weightings designed to reflect key priorities for universities in Asia as assessed by regional experts and stakeholders. The rankings are based on scores for academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, faculty-staff with Ph.D., papers per faculty, citations per paper, international research network, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange, and outbound exchange.
