14 Philippine Universities Shine in 2024 Times Higher Education World Rankings: The Big Four Lead the Way

The “Big Four” Philippine Universities—Ateneo de Manila, University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, and University of Santo Tomas— are officially ranked in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. University social media photos.

Fourteen Philippine universities have made it to the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR), expanding its presence from just 10 schools in 2023. Leading the pack are the “Big Four”—Ateneo de Manila University, the University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, and the University of Santo Tomas.

In this year’s THE WUR rankings, Ateneo continues to be the Philippine leader despite sliding to the 1,000-1,200 bracket from its 351-400 debut position in 2023. Six-time rank leader University of the Philippines (UP) also dropped to the 1,201-1,500 bracket, while De La Salle University (DLSU) now sits in the 1,501+ bracket. Newcomer University of Santo Tomas (UST) made its debut, landing in the 1,501+ bracket.

  • University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines
  • Tarlac Agricultural University
  • Visayas State University

The 2024 THE WUR evaluated 1,904 universities from 108 countries based on their teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry impact. This year, data from over 16.5 million research publications and 68,402 academic survey responses were analyzed.

Notably, Ateneo, UP, and DLSU were also featured in the 2023 THE WUR Asia University Rankings, cementing their regional prominence.
