Filipino Pride Shines: Legit Status & HQ Declared World Champions, UP Streetdance Grab Bronze at World Hip Hop Dance Championship

Filipino dance crews brought pride and honor to the Philippines with Legit Status and HQ clinching the Gold Medal as World Champions in the MegaCrew and Adult Divisions, while UP Streetdance Club won the MegaCrew Bronze Medal at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship 2023 held at Arizona Grand Resort & Spa Phoenix on August 7 (Philippine time).

With over 55 nations represented and hundreds of dancers taking the stage, the competition was fierce. Among the contestants were six talented teams from the Philippines, including, Legit Status MegaCrew Division and Legit Status JV MegaCrew of the Groove Central Dance Studio in Manila, UP Streetdance Club – the official street dance varsity representative of the University of the Philippines Diliman, HQ Philippines, Class E, and A-Kidz.

During the Preliminary round of the MegaCrew Division, Legit Status led the way, landing in 1st Place with a Performance Score of 4.02 and 3.96 in Skill, for a total of 7.98. UP Street Dance and Class E also put up strong fights.

The triumphs continued with Legit Status also placing 3rd in the JV MegaCrew Division and HQ landing in 3rd Place in the Adult Division. Additionally, A-Kidz secured a notable 7th place in the Varsity Division.

Through intense performances of five Filipino teams, Legit Status in MegaCrew and JV MegaCrew Divisions, UP Streetdance, HQ, and A-Kidz powered their way into the semi-finals on August 4.

According to the scoreboard, Legit Status, UP Streetdance, and HQ Philippines demonstrated remarkable performances throughout the semi-finals and finals, culminating in Legit Status scoring 7.81 in the finals and being declared MegaCrew World Champion, HQ scoring 7.59 and being named Adult Division World Champion, while UP Streetdance also making the MegaCrew podium with a score of 7.74 and a bronze medal.

Before this year’s competition, Legit Status also made significant achievements as a top 3 winner and finalist at previous editions of the World Hip Hop Championships. Together with VPeepz and The Peepz, these teams have consistently brought honor and pride to the Philippines, uplifting the nation’s heritage in the global dance arena.

This monumental achievement showcases the immense talent and resilience of Filipino dancers, illuminating the Philippines on the world stage and adding to the growing list of accomplishments that give Filipinos everywhere a reason to celebrate their heritage and culture.
