Filipino-American singer Steve Lacy won his first-ever Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album at the annual music awards in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.
Lacy received four nominations at the 65th Grammy Awards, leading fellow nominated artists of Filipino descent H.E.R. and Grayson Villanueva in this year’s awards ceremony.
Lacy’s winning album, Gemini Rights, bested entries from Tank and the Bangas (Red Balloon), Terrace Martin (Drones), Moonchild (Starfruit), and Cory Henry (Operation Funk).
The first-time Grammy winner took to social media to share a photo of his award and expressed his gratitude to fans for supporting his music.
“My mommy and I had the best time at the grammys. Thank u y’all for ur love and support. It means the world to me. I wake up and get paid to be myself. What a dream? Still waking up from this one. Gratitude on high. Love u guys,” Steve Lacy wrote in an Instagram post.

Born to a Filipino-American father and an African-American mother, Lacy was raised in Compton, California. He lost his father when he was ten years old.
Lacy performed his hit single, “Bad Habit,” which was also nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance of the year.
The 65th Annual Grammy Awards held on February 5, 2023, hosted groundbreaking performances and history-making Grammy wins.
Filipino-American artist Olivia Rodrigo presented the award for Best New Artist, an award she won last year.
This year’s top winners include Beyoncé, who broke the record for the most Grammy wins by any artist in the awards show’s history, Harry Styles for album of the year, Samara Joy for best new artist, and Lizzo for record of the year, among others.
