Four students from Sorsogon National High School (SNHS), Philippine Science High School (PSHS) – Bicol Region Campus and PSHS – Central Luzon Campus emerged as the winners of the 11th Philippine Geography Olympiad (PGO).
The students all came from the top-performing schools in this year’s PGO, the Philippines’ premier and largest inter-high school geography quiz bee presented by the Geographic Society of the University of the Philippines, the University of the Philippines Department of Geography, and the International Association of Young Geographers.
Sorsogon National High School student, Vinz Angelo Imperial, who was a bronze medalist in this year’s Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad (PNCO), was declared champion of the competition.
Sophia Bianca Therese Bagnes from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) – Bicol Region Campus and Jania Lyle Galang from PSHS – Central Luzon Campus, were named first and second runners-up, respectively.
Ma. Czarina Thea Belarmino, also from PSHS – Bicol Region Campus, won as the third runner-up in this year’s olympiad.
The national olympiad’s top three winners will be representing the Philippines in the upcoming International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) to be held in Paris, France this July.

The PGO organizers commended the following Top 3 best-performing schools in this year’s competition:
- 1st Place – Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus
- 2nd Place – Philippine Science High School – Central Luzon Campus
- 3rd Place – Sorsogon National High School
The PGO is recognized by the International Geographical Union (IGU) as the country’s official national geography competition. The Olympiad was held virtually from April 22 to 24, and on April 30, 2022.
Since 2015, the Philippines has won a total of 7 medals (3 silver medals and 4 bronze medals) in the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo).
Last year, the Philippine geography team bagged three medals in the iGeo held in Istanbul, Turkey.
Three students from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) – Main Campus, Victory Christian International School (VCIS), and Jubilee Christian Academy (JCA) in Metro Manila won this year’s Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO).
