Team Philippines has bagged one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals to lead teams from Southeast Asia in the 2022 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held in Goyang, South Korea.
The Philippine delegation’s five-medal finish propelled the team to the sixth rank in the final medal tally of the world tilt, placing ahead of participating Southeast Asian nations Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.
The Filipino Poomsae athletes competed among top teams in the international tilt which was attended by a record 760 athletes and 224 officials from 63 countries this year at the International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Goyang City from April 21 to 24, 2022.
Heading the country’s medal haul is top Filipino jin Ernesto Guzman Jr. who snared the gold medal for the Philippines under the category of Recognized Individual Male Under 50.
Ian Matthew Corton and Maria Nicole Labayne, competing in the Recognized Pair Junior category, took silver. Another pair, Kobe Macario and Juvenile Faye Crisostomo, won silver in the Freestyle Pair Over 17 category.
Philippine National Team members Darius Venerable and Rodolfo Reyes Jr. both took home bronze medals in the competition.

Last year, the Philippines’ National Poomsae team bagged ten medals and special awards at the World Taekwondo Asia Poomsae Championships in Beirut, Lebanon.
