University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons star player Ricci Rivero is giving back to UP IKOT jeepney drivers plying the routes of the Diliman Campus in his final season in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
The University of the Philippines standout has launched the “RR25 Buckets of Hope” campaign which will benefit jeepney drivers whose livelihoods have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rivero has pledged to donate Php 250 to the UP Ikot Drivers Association for every point that he scores in all of his games in the upcoming UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball tournament.
Rivero’s sports management agency, Virtual Playground, has also pledged to match the UP star athlete’s donations to the drivers’ association.
After a two-year hiatus, the UAAP returns for its 84th season with the men’s basketball tournament kicking off on March 26, 2022.
Rivero and his family earlier extended relief efforts for local frontliners and indigent neighbors in their hometown in Isabela.
In 2020, the UP MBT player celebrated his 22nd birthday with a Quarantine Birthday treat for his cancer-stricken fan, Freslee Salazar of Iloilo.
