The Philippines’ tennis champion Alexandra “Alex” Eala has risen to World No. 8 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior girls’ rankings as the 2022 season is set to open.
The teen sensation of the tennis world improved to No.8 with 1,481 points in the January 3 edition of the ITF ranking – two notches from her 2021 season-ender placement at 10th.
The 16-year-old Eala previously first held the World No. 2 spot in 2020 in a season that saw her being the first-ever Filipina semi-finalist in the French Open junior Grand Slam tourney and earlier winning her first Grand Slam juniors doubles championship at the Australian Open.
The Filipina teen athlete reclaimed the No. 2 junior rank in 2021 after her twin championship wins at the 61st Trofeo Bonfiglio in Milan, Italy.
Eala has been transitioning to playing professionally and won her first professional singles championship title in January 2021 at Manacor, Spain.
Alex Eala’s 2021 season was also punctuated by winning her second Grand Slam juniors doubles title in the French Open while playing with the world’s best women professionals, eventually hitting her career-high World Tennis Association rank at #505.
