The Philippines’ Miss Universe bet Beatrice Luigi Gomez revealed her people’s rights advocacy and talked about her humble beginnings in a new introduction video ahead of the international pageant in Israel.

In the Up Close video for the Miss Universe Organization, the Cebuana beauty queen opened up about her life and achievements outside of pageantry as a Navy reservist, athlete, and people’s rights advocate.

The 26-year-old Filipina shared about growing up being raised by a single mother and how being an athlete helped her and her sibling attend school.

“I was raised by a single mom and she had quite a hard time managing our household,” Beatrice Luigi Gomez shared on the video released on December 6, 2021,

“My sister and I tried out for the volleyball varsity team and we were able to get an athletic scholarship, and that’s how we were able to go to a good school from high school to college,” Gomez continued.

Aside from being a beauty queen, Gomez is an athlete, model, community development worker, and a navy marines reservist.

“I also am a member of the Philippine Navy Marines Reserve Force. It was quite easy for me to do the physical training. It was physically challenging, but I was already an athlete before and I still continue to run at least five kilometers a day,” the Miss Universe-Philippines said.

Gomez, a children’s rights and welfare advocate, also talked about being able to represent the LGBTQ+ community as the Philippines’ first openly queer representative in the pageant.

“I’m very grateful that the Philippines is very supportive of sending an LGBTQ+ member to represent our country,” Gomez said.

“It’s a big deal because we are here to give positivity and be an inspiration, especially to the young children who are looking up to us. That they can be whoever they want to be when they grow up,” she adds.

The video featuring Gomez is currently ranked within the top fifty trending videos on YouTube with over 200,000 views as of this writing.
