University of Santos Tomas (UST) professor Fidel Gener Calalang Jr. has bagged the third prize in the International Composers Competition organized by Academia Musica in Vienna, Austria.
Calalang Jr. of the UST Conservatory of Music won the award in the second edition of the global tilt for his latest composition entitled “Adoramus Te Christe (We adore you, Oh Christ, and we bless You)” on August 16, 2021.
The Thomasian professor is the conductor and founder of the critically acclaimed group, the UST Singers. He has led the choir in over thirty international concert tours in Europe, the United States of America, Canada, Asia, and Australia, and in winning 80 top prizes in different choral competitions all over the world.
Calalang Jr. finished his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Master of Arts in Music at the UST Conservatory of Music in Manila.
The UST Singers achieved a historical first 3-peat win at the Choir of the World Championships in 2019.
UST Singers Alumni have also come together to sing the OPM classic “Isang Lahi, Isang Dugo, Isang Musika” to spread hope, national unity, and inspire Filipinos at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
