Philippines’ Junna Tsukii claims 2nd gold in World Karate Premier League

The Philippines’ karate champion Junna Tsukii has won her second gold medal of the season in the Karate 1 Premier League in Cairo, Egypt.

Tsukii defeated hometown bet Areeg Rashed, 2-1, in the finals of the female kumite -55kg event held on September 5, 2021.

In the preliminaries, the Filipino-Japanese karateka ousted foes Yorgelis Salazar of Venezuela and Aleksandra Grujic of Austria en route to a gold podium finish.

The 29-year-old national athlete claimed her first-ever gold in the Karate 1 Premier League in Lisbon, Portugal in May just before her participation in the Tokyo Olympics.

The Karate 1 Premier League is the most important league event in the world of karate.

The next leg of the tournament series is slated in Moscow from October 1 to 3.

Junna Tsukii is currently at the 7th rank overall in the Kumite -50kg division in the latest World Karate Federations (WKF) ranking.

Tsukii has also won gold medals from the Invitational Championships and the 2021 Golden Belt Tournament, both held in Serbia.
