The Philippines’ acclaimed Gameboys web series has been nominated in the 10th International Emmy Kids Awards.
The popular Filipino Boys’ Love (BL) series was named among the nominees in the Live-Action category of the prestigious awards on September 7, 2021.
Produced by the IdeaFirst Company and directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, Gameboys revolves around the characters of Gavreel Alarcon (Kokoy de Santos) and live-stream gamer Cairo Lazaro (Elijah Canlas) who fall in love online during the quarantine.
Gameboys will represent the Philippines and compete with nominations from Australia, Netherlands, and Argentina.
The International Emmy Kids Awards recognizes excellence in international children’s programming produced initially outside the United States.
Winners will be announced on the International Academy’s website on October 12, 2021.
The Gameboys series of The IdeaFirst Company had its world premiere on Netflix last year and won the Indie Shorts Awards for Best Web Series in Seoul, Korea.
Elijah Canlas, who plays the main character in the Filipino BL series, won the Best Actor award at the 17th Asian Film Festival and the Annual Harlem International Film Festival in New York.
